Welcome to the blog of Old Scrolls Book Shop!

I’m Catherine Petruccione, Proprietor of Old Scrolls Book Shop www.oldscrolls.com, established in 2001 in the beautiful Finger Lakes area of New York State. Together with my husband, Ron Sollome, we travel and visit interesting places to track down the best in used and rare collectible quality books for our customers who visit us in the store and on-line. We offer real books for real people who enjoy reading and lining their shelves with the work of their favorite authors. We specialize in hardcover first editions of fiction and non-fiction titles, as well as a large selection of Modern Library editions. In the coming days we will share our book scouting adventures, tips for collectors, fun things happening in our shop, and information on books and authors.

We hope you will visit often!

  1. Finally had time to browse the bookstore blog. Fantastic! What could be more appropriate than kitty at the very top- watching over those books. I hope to visit your site often. What is the name of your cat? How old? My two daughter-in-laws have cats – they really enjoy them. we are expecting a gusty storm in the next 2 days. its been beautiful here all of November. Love J.

    • Our cat’s name is Spider, and she is three years old. I told Ron one autumn morning in 2006 that he really must get me a mousetrap. When he came back from the barn a little while later, he was wearing a soft little black kitten on his shoulder. “Here’s your mousetrap!”
He heard her mewing in the hayloft where she was wedged all alone between some bales. She is much happier now being wedged between some books, or napping in front of the woodstove.

  2. Have you ever read Larry McMurtry’s: Books-A Memior, or J.R. Moehringer’s Memior-A Tender Bar?

Larry’s Memior is more about books and book-scouting, but Moehringer talks a lot about them as well.
Larry wrote Lonesome Dove and co-authored Brokeback Mountain and Moehringer is the winner of the Pulitzer for feature writing in 2000.

    • Thank you for the suggested read. I’m always up for a good find; especially if it has to do with American History.

I’ve been into a lot of used/new book stores; you’d be surprised at how many owners own the store as a business only, versus owning it because they love books.

Your banner, with the pic of spider, kind of looks like it’d make a great scene from a Harry Potter movie. My daughter & I just adopted a kitten…she’s an enjoyable pain-in-the-rump, into everything.

      Again, Thanks!
