Yesterday author J. C. (Chris) Hallman and his girlfriend Catherine Michele Adams came to visit us at Old Scrolls Book Shop. We had dinner with them recently in St. Paul, Minnesota while on our midwest book trip, and I interviewed Chris about his newly released book In Utopia: Six Kinds of Eden and the Search for a Better Paradise (St. Martin’s Press, August 2010).
In this book Hallman takes his readers on a highly entertaining and scholarly adventure as he examines utopian thought in history and the present day, while taking us along on his quest to experience existing utopian communities around the world . You can learn more about the book and read the interview on Bookthink. Chris and Catherine are on a city-hopping promotional tour for the book, so if you want to catch up with the author in a town near you, here is your chance! J.C. Hallman is also the author of The Chess Artist, The Devil is A Gentleman, and The Hospital for Bad Poets.
Catherine is a photographer, and she and Chris brought us a framed and signed copy of one of her lovely photographs as a gift. It’s my favorite photograph from her website, taken in Santa Sabina, a 5th century basilica in Rome.
Thanks to Chris and Catherine for the visit and the beautiful gift!
